Dear Friends,
GoodSchoolsRoc Receives More Applications than Ever
In 2023, Rochester charter schools collectively received more applications by the April 1 Lottery deadline than any other year. Website visits were up more than 40% and application numbers increased by more than 15% over the previous high.
More than 8,000 students are currently enrolled at Rochester charter schools. Since charter school students out-perform those in district schools, the charter school sector has become a very important part of the education landscape in Rochester.

Indianapolis Recap
Eight local charter school leaders traveled to Indianapolis with E3 personnel this spring to meet with members of The Mind Trust, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving public education and supports 46 charter and innovation schools. The group toured three schools and met with The Mind Trust staff to learn more about their efforts to improve educational outcomes. They face similar challenges in building a strong charter school sector and are focusing on leadership development and specialized help, such as training school boards, assessing curricula, and teacher coaching. We plan to partner with them and similar organizations in other cities to share information on what’s having the greatest impacts.

National Conference Attendance
E3 Rochester will be attending the National Charter School Conference in June, with the goal of meeting charter leaders in other cities and learning about what is producing the greatest learning gains across the country now that the pandemic is behind us (we hope). E3’s approach is partnership, working together with other organizations here in Rochester and in other cities towards the common goal of giving children the best education possible.
Results Sharing: Improving Academic Performance
In June, E3 will convene charter school leaders to hear from nationally recognized literacy consultant Sarah Tantillo, author of the Literacy Cookbook, Literacy and the Common Core, and Hit the Drum, along with Rochester Academy Charter School’s chief academic officer as they share how a year of coaching teachers and principals has impacted the school.
